Wednesday, November 18, 2009

On November 2, 2009 at about 10:07 p.m. the University of California Police responded to parking lot 30 for a carjacking that had just occurred. Officers contacted a male UCR student who was approached by a suspect who asked for the time.  The victim gave the subject the time and proceeded to enter his vehicle.  The victim started his vehicle and saw the same subject standing next to the open door holding a knife.  The suspect ordered the victim to give him his vehicle.  The victim got out of the vehicle and the suspect ordered him to leave his i-Pod and cell phone inside the vehicle.  The suspect got in the vehicle and drove east through the lot towards the Canyon Crest Drive exit.

Follow up investigation by UCPD Detectives revealed sufficient evidence and information for a search warrant to be written for an apartment in San Bernardino.  UCPD Detectives, assisted by the San Bernardino Police Department, served the search warrant on 11/17/09 at 9:36am.  Stolen property from the carjacking was recovered and the suspect was arrested.

Because the suspect is a juvenile, his identity cannot be released.  However, this juvenile was booked in the Riverside County Juvenile Hall on 11/17/09 and charged for carjacking and robbery.

UCPD Information Release-Suspect Arrested

For: University Plaza Apartment Assault

On September 11th, 2009 University Police responded to 1020 Linden Street (University Plaza Apartments) for an injured woman. Officers contacted a 20-year-old female who was assaulted earlier in the women’s rest room at the apartment’s pool area. A suspect entered the women’s rest room while she was inside and assaulted her. The victim suffered abrasions and bruises to her face during the altercation and was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

Through further investigations, UCPD Detectives located another victim who provided a good description of the suspect. This second victim was approached by the same suspect who attempted to entice her into the pool area spa. When the victim refused he grabbed at her pants, but she escaped by running away.

University Police Detectives continued their investigation and identified the suspect as Raymond Lesean Nelson, Sr. of Woodcrest California. Nelson was previously arrested by the Riverside Police Department in August of 1996 after kidnapping, raping and assaulting a young female. Two years later, Nelson was arrested by UCPD for a sexual assault on campus.

On October 16, 2009 Raymond Nelson was arrested by UCPD at his employer’s business in the City of Corona without incident. UCPD Detective Hoffert and Andert are asking anyone with any additional information to contact the University of California Police Department at 951-827-5222.
